Ph. D. Student

Xiaotong Liu is a doctoral student in the Department of Communication Studies. She is a recipient of the 2025 TIPI fellowship, which supports her research on how employees perceive workplace technology across different work environments (remote, hybrid, and in-office) before, during, and after return-to-office transitions. Her work with TIPI also includes research on the communicative and psychological processes of human-robot encounters, and a recent study exploring how culturally meaningful health communication materials can effectively disseminate flood preparedness information.
Broadly, Xiaotong’s research examines how identity and identification are constructed in different organizational settings, how global and virtual teams navigate cultural differences, the perceptions of organizational communication elements for people in different cultural backgrounds, and the social dynamics of technology adoption in organizational contexts. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in International Relations in Beijing, China, and her Master’s degree in Media and Communication in London, United Kingdom.
