On April 2nd-3rd, TIPI had the pleasure of presenting their research during the Good Systems Symposium at UT Austin. The annual conference gathered diverse experts from academia and industry to address the evolving opportunities and challenges where artificial intelligence meets society. Below are three different TIPI-related posters presented at the event:

The first of the research posters, presented by Sharon Strover, Brad Limov, and Azza El-Masri, investigates the empirical implications of ethical AI frameworks, particularly focusing on how city organizations are implementing and perceiving AI use. It aims to develop guidelines for the responsible integration of AI technologies within public services, highlighting the need to understand public awareness and perceptions of AI in city operations. Attached in addition is a video presentation given by Brad and Azza.

The next research poster, presented by Dr. Anita Varma, proposes an alternative ethical framework for AI development and deployment. It critiques existing principles like fairness, accountability, and transparency as insufficient, instead advocating for a solidarity-based approach to address the broader societal implications of AI.

The final poster, presented by Silvia DalBen Furado, Tina Lassiter, and Sharon Strover, investigates the governance of generative AI in journalism, exploring how newsrooms are integrating AI and the potential ethical challenges that brings regarding regulation and guidelines. It highlights a general consensus among journalists that AI governance is needed, emphasizing principles like transparency, accountability, and privacy.
