Mir Rabby

Ph. D. Student

Mir Rabby is a Ph.D. candidate in Organizational Communication and Technology at the University of Texas at Austin and the Lead Graduate Research Assistant at the Technology and Information Policy Institute (TIPI), where he works on interdisciplinary projects and manages a National Science Foundation grant led by Dr. Keri Stephens. His engagement with TIPI has strengthened his research profile and deepened his experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, grant management, and mentoring.

His research examines how workers make sense of fairness when AI-driven systems, such as those used by Uber and DoorDash, govern pay, task allocation, and performance evaluation. His dissertation is supported by NSF’s Decision, Risk, and Management Sciences Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant.

At TIPI, Mir contributes to projects in crisis and risk communication, particularly in disaster and environmental contexts. He has been involved in seven research initiatives exploring topics such as extreme cold weather, workplace hazards, flooding, and water-related issues including conservation, infrastructure, and safety. His studies identify communication strategies that motivate public cooperation with agencies and encourage proactive preparedness before disasters occur. One of these projects received the Top Paper Award in the Environmental Communication Division at ICA 2025.
